Is Ryze Mushroom Coffee Worth The Hype?

As an avid coffee drinker, I tried Ryze coffee to see the hype. Ryze Mushroom Coffee has experienced a surge in popularity recently.
Interest in the brand grew by 72% over the past year, which aligns with the increasing consumer interest in functional beverages that offer health benefits beyond traditional coffee (“Ryze Coffee,” 2025).
Ryze Mushroom Coffee is often highlighted in discussions about mushroom supplements and functional foods.
However, after reading the reviews online, I realized that people have mixed feelings about the taste and consistency of mushroom coffee.
Let’s examine what it is and how it tastes, but first, what is mushroom coffee?
What is Mushroom Coffee?
Mushroom coffee is a coffee alternative or supplement that blends traditional coffee with powdered extracts of functional mushrooms.
These mushrooms are not the culinary kind (like button or portobello) but medicinal varieties used by cultures worldwide for their health benefits.
Mushroom coffee is designed to provide energy, focus, and health benefits without the side effects of regular coffee, like jitters, crashes, or high acidity.
Let’s examine the claims about functional mushrooms in these coffees.
Claims About Functional Mushrooms
Diet and fitness communities love to talk about the benefits of functional mushrooms, which they claim
- Enhance memory
- Boost focus
- Improve mood
- Longevity
- Increase stamina
- Mental clarity
To be honest, research has not yet proved these claims to be true. Studies that show some health benefits are done in animal studies, so more human research is needed (Marketing and Communication, 2024).
How a mushroom is consumed also plays a big part in extracting its benefits. Most dietitians agree that the powdered form is the least beneficial because it eliminates the fiber component.
Unfortunately, mushrooms are powdered in ground coffees, so I would assume that the prebiotic beneficial effects are not so great.
What’s in Ryze Mushroom Coffee?
Ryze Mushroom coffee is a blend of the following ingredients:
Coffee
They use Organic Arabica Coffee in the form of instant coffee granules or powder.
Instant coffee is made from brewed coffee dehydrated into a powdered or granulated form, allowing for quick and easy preparation.
It’s popular because you can make coffee in seconds by adding hot water or milk, eliminating the need for brewing equipment like coffee makers or espresso machines.
Medicinal Mushrooms
They use a blend made up of these organic mushrooms:
Cordyceps,
Lion’s Mane,
Reishi,
Shiitake,
Turkey Tail, and
King Trumpet
MCT Oil
This is usually added for creaminess and/or a quick energy boost
MCT oil (short for Medium-Chain Triglyceride oil) is fat extracted from coconut or palm kernel oil. It is used for a quick energy boost.
It is unique because it contains medium-chain fatty acids metabolized differently from long-chain fatty acids found in most other foods.
MCTs are absorbed quickly into the bloodstream without requiring bile or digestive enzymes.
They are transported directly to the liver, where they are rapidly converted into ketones or used as an immediate energy source.
Because of this, MCT oil is popular in health and fitness communities due to its potential benefits for energy, weight management, and brain function.
Coconut milk
This is most likely added for creaminess and to balance the flavor of mushrooms.
Caffeine Content

A cup of regular coffee has about 95 mg of caffeine, whereas a cup of Ryze Mushroom Coffee has 48 mg.
The Verdict
Ryze Coffee has a very instant coffee-like texture and feel.
The mushrooms give it an earthy aftertaste, which makes it feel like a diluted cup of coffee, which I personally did not enjoy.
If you are looking for a gentler alternative to traditional coffee because of the caffeine, then give this a try.
But, if you want to do it for the health benefits alone, I suggest eating mushrooms rather than drinking them in a powdered form to get the full benefits of fiber.
As for me, I will be sticking to my traditional cup of coffee for now!
