Welcome to GrossEating!

I’m Farah Sabir, a nutritionist and mom of two young boys, and I started this blog out of pure frustration with the food options surrounding us. As a parent, I see firsthand how hard it is to avoid unhealthy choices, and as a nutritionist, I know the long-term damage they can cause.

With obesity rates and heart disease climbing every year, it’s impossible to ignore the role processed foods and misleading food marketing play in shaping our diets.

Why I Started GrossEating

The numbers tell a disturbing story:

  • 42.4% of U.S. adults were considered obese in 2017–2018, up from 30.5% in 1999–2000 (CDC, 2024).

  • Nearly 17% of kids aged 2–19 struggle with obesity (“State of Childhood Obesity,” 2024).

  • 90% of children consume more sodium than recommended daily, often from school meals (Mayo Clinic Health System, 2022).

  • 63% of youth drink at least one sugary beverage per day (CDC, 2020).

These aren’t just statistics — they represent real families, real kids, and real health struggles.

My Mission

Through GrossEating, my mission is simple:
✨ To expose the truth about what’s really in our food.
✨ To highlight dangerous ingredients hidden in everyday products.
✨ To empower families with knowledge to make healthier food choices.

It’s time to rethink what’s on our plates and demand better from the food industry.

Who I Am

I hold an M.S. in Nutritional Science from San Jose State University, but more importantly, I’m a mom who cares deeply about raising healthy, happy kids. This blog is my way of combining professional expertise with personal passion to inspire change.

Let’s Do This Together

GrossEating isn’t just about criticizing the food industry. It’s about building awareness, making small but powerful changes, and creating a healthier future for our families.

Join me on this journey to uncover the truth about processed foods and take back control of our health.
